What is Beaujolais Day?
Beaujolais Day is a gloriously French excuse to gather, raise a glass, and welcome the very first wine of the new harvest. Each year, on the third Thursday of November, bottles of Beaujolais Nouveau – a light, juicy red from Burgundy – are released at the stroke of midnight (yes, 12:01am to be precise). It’s fresh, it’s fruity, and it’s meant to be enjoyed young, making it the perfect centrepiece for a lively celebration.
In its homeland, the Beaujolais region marks the moment with festivals, music and plenty of merriment, celebrating the end of the grape harvest in true French style. But the party doesn’t stop there. Across the globe – and closer to home in places like Swansea and Cardiff – it’s become a much-anticipated tradition, with tables booked well in advance for a day (and night) of good food, good company and flowing wine.
In short: Beaujolais Day is all about savouring the season, embracing a little joie de vivre, and enjoying a proper glass of something special the moment it arrives.
